Star coins........

I know we are almost done with the SMB levels now, but i was thinking, we will need to add the star coins in order to access world 9. Has anything been decided about this yet?

Yeah I was thinging that too...We should make small glitches in every level so we can put star coins in there.

Maybe this game could be distributed with a cheat code, that gives you all star coins automatically?

for the most part i think this has been decided on a while ago...lol...its gonna remain under wraps until the remakes are completed..lol

Its a pain to get all of those coins, and messing with the level design to add them would be awful. Personally, I'd rather lose world 9 vs add star coins to all of the levels. I like the idea of using a cheat code. We'll find a way to get world 9 without adding the star coins, don't worry.

Yeah exactly on cfg usb loader you can autoboot with Ocarina on!!!

Although I have no I dea how to use Ocarina...I someone could point out a good tutorial that would be great!

We should also find a method that works with Riivolution if we can..

I'm pretty sure you can use ocarina with Riivolution http://rvlution.net/riiv/Patch_Format#Ocarina_Patch so if we can get the cheat code it shouldn't be too hard to make it part of the release.

The only problem with using a cheat code is that all levels will be unlocked from the beginning.

But as you can see it basically unlocks everything.

We can't distribute it with that code obviously because it will unlock every level. We need to make a new code that only modifies the number of star coins collected. I don't have any experience with memory hacking but I am sure when the time arises we can find someone who does. All those cheats do is modify the games memory. The left side column is the memory address and the right side column is the new value.

Ok but what about those with a modchip? Who don't use homebrew in any way?

Good questions. I don't really know what would happen if you unlock just the star coins on a new save. It will unlock world 9 straight away though which probably isn't desirable. I suppose to get around the modchip problem we could distribute a save game that has world 9 unlocked.

We may have to bite the bullet and add the star coins into our levels. I dont mind myself, people would understand that the star coins were not in the original and that we had to add them to gain access to world 9.

I'm no memory hacker, but if a code will be included, there could be a constant "if" check with the code, that checks whether or not you've completed the last level of world eight, then gives you the star coins if true.

My question is this: how badly do we need world 9? Like really?

World 1 - 4 is enough space for SMB1
World 5 - 8 is enough space for SMB2 (most important parts anyway)

So you need to ask: How badly do we need world 9?

Personally, I believe that we DON'T need it bad enough to add star coins to the levels. That would break the entire project, and for what, another 8 levels from the end of LL? If we can get it unlocked somehow, then great. If not, then forget about it and move on. Its not an integral part of the project to have those extra level slots, in my opinion at least.
