Giantpune's List Empty
PostSubject: Giantpune's List   Giantpune's List EmptySun Apr 25, 2010 1:33 am

I am reposting giantpunes list here. Some of these items may already have been fixed but there is definately a lot to look into.

*-4
when you get to the bridge, it triggers a group of blocks to appear on the left to block mario. so if you step onto the bridge and then back off, you get blocked from the bridge and cannot finish the level.

1-3
levels 5-3 and 1-3... arent they supposed to be about the same, with just slight differences? 5-3 looks like the original game. 1-3 looks like butthole. (1-3 looks right to me)

1-4
- you can see the hidden coins before you get them. (can anyone confirm this, it doesn't seem to happen to me and it is using the right tile)
- Prefer the 6-4 background better.

2-2
i cant exit 2-2. i see the pipe. but a cant go in it.

2-4
the first 2 fireballs in 2-4 are out of the lava WAY too often. they need to slow down.

3-1
- missing 2 hammer brothers right before the vine.
- when you drop back into the level after climbing the vine, it starts you out too close to the flagpole

3-2
there is a pipe at the end of 3-2 that is in the wrong layer. mario can walk right through it and kick shells through it.

4-1
lakitu throwing things at mario doesnt go away when you reach the stairs to the flagpole like he should.

4-2
i can't get 4-2 to start. i have all the different tilesets and it still doesnt work. (caused by missing tileset)

5-1
i can't get 5-1 to start. i have all the different tilesets and it still doesnt work.

6-1
lakitu doesnt go away when you get to the flagpole

6-2
if you go down the pipe to the underwater section, this underwater section does not match up with the one from world 5- . you can jump out of the water here and the music is different. it laso doesnt use the corals, but instead it uses tree-looking things

6-4
the castle should be about the same as 1-4. they are a little bit different, though.

7-1
- it is using grey bricks instead of red ones. i believe that the original used red bricks in this level. (Fixed with standard tileset update)
- also, due to the new game mechanics, it is now possible to get 99 lives in at least 2 places in this level, as well as about 15 lives at the end of the level. im not sure if that can be changes easily though.

7-2
again, this is another water level using trees and things instead of corals. also, if you swim to the top of the screen, the camera scrolls up to show what i would think is too much of the sky. if there is a way to not make it do that, i would suggest doing it

7-3
- throughout the whole level, i only saw fish jumping at me from the right. they never came from the left. and they always came from the same spot. very predictable.

7-4
as part of the "maze" stuff in the castle, you must take the correct path. if you take the first upper path, it starts you back about 20 blocks. this really isnt even worth doing.... "if they take the top path, set them bake 20 steps and let the try it again". this is not how it was in the original castle. im not sure what needs to be done to fix it since the whole maze thing is not really possible right now. taking the wrong path anywhere else in the castle seems to make you start at the exact same place (cant be fixed)

8-1
- seems to be missing a pipe that you can go down. i havent played the original in a long time, but i think i remember a pipe there you can go down near the start of the level

8-2
- the 2 flying turtles at the beginning of the level start out way to for left. in the original, you have time to get to the 3rd step and duck under the second turtle.
- there are 6 or 7 different ways in this level to get unlimited lives now.
- also, as part of the game mechanics being different, you can now run through trampolines. in the NES version, you cannot. if possible, i would say to put some invisible block there to keep from running through them

8-3
i just replaced the 8-3 in the game with this one. the background is confusing. im not sure if your arc just uses whatever BG is standard or something, but i got a bunch of collumns. NES version had a bricks in teh background. im sure you can simulate this by just slapping some bricks in layer 2 or something (not a bug, requires background replacement which is in development)

8-4
- the pipes in 8-4 show up green instead of grey. (already fixed with the standard tileset update)
- the horizontal moving platform should be hidden in the lava. it is too high and clearly visible.
- the flying turtles again start too far to the left. they should appear just before mario has had time to hit the invisible block.
- the last rotating fire doodad in the water section seems too close to the exit pipe. im just going from memory, but something about that doesnt seem right.

dont forget the image that i posted above the list. in the -4 levels, when you get to the bridge, it triggers a group of blocks to appear on the left to block mario. so if you step onto the bridge and then back off, you get blocked from the bridge and cannot finish the level.

PostSubject: Re: Giantpune's List   Giantpune's List EmptySun Apr 25, 2010 5:01 am

Ok ive playtested every level in order on my wii upto 5-1, everything inserted where it should be and all levels are working as they should, except 5-1 (black screen). Apart from some of the things GP has pointed out that have already been fixed his list could may be the final fixes for the actual levels, i dunno tho, theres some proper anal people out there lol and maybe they will spot more tiny, insignificant things but hey its cool we are trying to be accurate.

By the way the levels i tested were upto date as of yesterday 24/4/10. As far as i know, no more edits have been done since then.

Also i think 12 blocks is too far for the flagpole, its nigh on impossible to reach the top. 10 blocks should be fine tho.

We are getting close to the end now people........WooHoo!!!!!

EDIT:
1-4 background has been changed, V6 available in the level thread.
2-2 prob has been fixed, V5 available in the level thread.
2-4 Fireballs have been slowed down to a reasonable rate, V7 available in the level thread.
3-1 hammer bro's are in, and re-entry point has been moved by 1 block, V4 available in level thread. Cloud area looks good, same level, new style??
3-2 Pipe is on correct layer in current version, v5.
4-2 current version works just fine for me, inserted into 02-05.arc.
6-4 differs from 1-4 due to different people building them, its gonna take a copy and paste of one to replace the other and then editing the enemies. I'll leave the decision to Ragee/Hamradio as to which one to use.

well, either i had an old version of the level that has since been fixed, or your map for 3-1 is wrong. the level i played had mario drop down at the steps at the end of the level. heres a video of what it should look like http://www.multiupload.com/07YH1DVMHK
also, i believe that the cloud section in the 3-1.arc i played was not correct. it was nothing like this video. now that i think of it, every cloud section i came across was incorrect.

Ok it was out but only by 1 block.

I have fixed this, check the 3-1 level thread for the fixed version.

In 8-4 there are differences in the maps (NES and All Stars) the platform is above the lava in the allstars maps and thats what these levels have been based on. Not sure what you mean about the turtles, and the firebar at the end looks ok to me, maybe someone else should take a look at it.

i never played the SNES version. but i did play the NES version literally thousands of times. the 2 turtles with wings are showing up too soon. normally, mario has time to run up and hit the hidden coin just as the first turtle is reaching the right edge of the floating pipe.

and im not quite sure what i think it should be, but the very end of the underwater section seems off right at the last fireballs and pipe. ill play the real version later and see what it should be.

that may be why the cloud sections seem different. maybe they are correct to the SNES version ( which is not the original Razz )

Just played thru the allstars version and the platform is definatly above the lava.

There is also an extra platform in the nes version that isn't in our version.

@pune how did you do at hitting the top of the flagpole with the 12 block distance? I was unable to hit the top at all, maybe its just me?

@Ham 1-4 coin problem does not occur for me either and 3-1 hammer bro's are not missing.

Ive checked all the maps i can find and 8-1 only has 1 pipe you can go down and that is in the correct place in our level.

EDIT: Ive done some of the 8-2 fixes, check the level thread. Ive also had a look at the *-4 problem, and by moving the location right a couple of squares seems to fix it. There isnt enough time for the player to go back off the bridge. Try it and let me know what you think.

EDIT 2: Ive just updated the water area in 6-2 to use the new coral tiles.

This was giving me a black screen until i started using the text tileset (Pa0_jyotyu) from the Reggie extras folder.

The thread doesn't mention that, as we haven't made our own edits to that tileset

Yea, download that and keep "Pa0_jyotyu". Replace the rest of the files with the one's from the "Standard Tileset Update".

Ok I added that missing tileset to the Updated Standard Tileset so you don't need to download the Text Tileset anymore.
I'm going through and updating all the post pages with the latest versions.

i just confirmed from the NES version. there is a pipe that you can enter in level 8-1. it leads to an underground coin room like the one in 1-2. it is missing from the .arc file i played.

here is your error in 8-4
